Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 5 pm today. The development was confirmed through the official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister is very likely to speak on the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country, as a number of states are in the process of unlock.
“Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi will address the nation at 5 PM today, 7th June,” the Prime Minister’s Office said on Twitter.

Tamil Nadu Monday extended the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown till June 14 with some relaxations, news agency ANI reported. Standalone shops selling fruits and vegetables, grocery, meat & fish, roadside shops, flower shops can operate between 6 am-5 pm. 11 districts have been exempted from relaxations due to high infection rate.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the government is starting a ‘Jahan Vote, Wahan Vaccination’ campaign from today where people will be asked to get vaccinated at their designated polling stations. “We are starting a ‘Jahan Vote, Wahan Vaccination’ campaign from today. Under this campaign, we will tell people to visit their designated polling stations to get vaccinated. Door-to-door vaccination to be done soon. In 4 weeks, all above 45 years of age to be vaccinated.”
And India reported 1,00,636 new Covid-19 cases and 2,427 deaths on Monday, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. Part of it has to do with low testing on Sunday. Only 15.87 lakh samples were tested on Sunday, compared to an average of more than 20 lakh in the last week. Tamil Nadu, the top contributor, reported 20,421 cases. Only four states had a case count of more than 10,000. On the fatalities front, about 1,600 of the total deaths in the last 24 hours has been reported from just four states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala
The total number of coronavirus cases has now reached 2,89,09,975 while the death toll rose to 3,49,186. There are 14,01,609 active cases in the country while as many as 2,71,59,180 people have recovered from the disease. The ministry said a total of 23,27,86,482 people have been vaccinated so far.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to stop spread of misinformation on the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and attack on doctors who have been on the forefront of India’s fight against the pandemic.
Saying that the fraternity has lost over 1,400 doctors to the virus, the IMA said that it was “anguished to see continuous attempts by certain people to propagate disbelief and misinformation in relation to vaccines”.
